We always appreciate groups who wish to come be of service to the Crisis Center for a variety of reasons! Groups have provided fun and assistance in many ways to our clients and our center! Past examples include: BBQ for residents, painting projects, landscaping projects, cooking projects, holiday projects and more.
Groups have been a wonderful addition to our volunteer team! However, because of the sensitive nature of services we provide at the Center, we are limited to groups of 12. Volunteers between the ages of 12-16 years old must be accompanied by an adult and have permission of a parent or guardian. We do not accept volunteers under the age of 12.
Training/Commitment Requirements:
All members of the group must watch two training videos and attend a 30 minute volunteer orientation prior to their group event. The group contact is responsible for ensuring members have fulfilled this requirement. Depending on the nature of the services the group will provide, additional training may be required for the safety of both the volunteers and the clients they may work with. The entire group is also asked to abide by the following group policies:
Group Policies
- If the group is working directly with clients, each person volunteering is required to watch a trauma informed care training video. It is the responsibility of the contact to ensure each member has completed this. The video will be shared upon approval of the volunteer group request.
- Any minor will need to have a consent form signed by their parent or legal guardian.
- Any minor must be accompanied by a supervisory adult from the group at all times.
- All volunteers from the group who are 18 years or older are required to have a background check.
- Groups will need to be in attendance 30minutes before their event, to have an orientation discussing confidentiality, information and policies pertaining to the volunteer experience. Each person in the group will need to fill out a confidentiality agreement statement.
- While taking photographs of the event is permissible, we ask that you do not take any photographs of clients, regardless of verbal consent.
- Grayson Crisis Center cannot guarantee attendance to your event. If attendance is low, we reserve the right to reschedule the event, or see if the group is able to assist in other areas if needed.
We ask that all groups
- be responsible for completing all tasks they have committed to doing to the best of their ability
- adhere to agency rules and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality of any client information
- remain non-judgmental when dealing with the group, staff and clients
- communicate with the volunteer coordinator with any concerns or issues
- give at least a 24 hour notice of cancellation
- come ready to work in the agreed upon fashion
- provide any snacks, beverages or other resources needed to complete their task
- refrain from giving clients any personal information, contact information. If a client is in need of resources, volunteers will refer the client to an advocate
Due to both the mission of the Crisis Center and our funding sources, a background check will be performed.
If you are currently receiving services from the Crisis Center or been convicted of family violence, assault, or theft, you are not an eligible volunteer applicant.
